Public transport is something both Apple and Google are still coming to grips with, but Citymapper is brilliant at recommending routes across a combination of Underground, walking, bus and train – which will prove invaluable in London. The reason why Citymapper is a better bet for London than other navigation apps is because it’s primarily built to navigate the Tube, whereas Google Maps and Apple’s Maps are still largely geared around driving and walking. It’s free for Android and iOS, and only uses GPS when the app is open on your screen, helping to save your battery. Your friend is right, Citymapper is far more comprehensive than TfL’s official tube map app, which is riddled with annoying adverts and isn’t terribly user-friendly.Ĭitymapper is the app I use most to navigate cities, including New York, San Francisco and Tokyo. I’ve been using TfL’s site up until now, but my friends have been saying I should be using Citymapper.
